Your Most Common Fence Questions, Answered
Shopping for a fence can bring up a lot of questions. Questions about what’s best for your yard, what to expect, what rules exist around installing your fence, and more. Here are some answers to just a few questions that we get asked all the time about the fence installation process!
How high can my fence be?
Your municipality or HOA will sometimes dictate how high your fence can be. Some HOAs state that your fence has to be below a certain height unless you have a pool, and then it can be higher. Some state that there is a height limit for fences installed in the front yard, but not on the back or sides. This varies widely, so be sure to look at the restrictions of your specific HOA or municipality.
Here at the Fence Authority, many of our fences are offered in 4, 5, 6, and 8 foot heights, though other heights are available in many of our styles, and custom fencing is always an option as well through our Cedartech Signature line.
What types of fencing are best for around a pool?
Any material of fencing that we offer can be used for a pool. Wood, vinyl, and aluminum are all acceptable materials for pool fencing. However, municipalities and HOAs may have their own rules about materials, heights, and other elements for pool fences, so be sure to check those as well.
When shopping for your pool fence, know that certain fence styles are pool code-approved while others do not meet the requirements. The pool code exists to keep not only humans safe, but wildlife as well. If you need fencing that will be around a pool, you can ask one of our sales reps about pool code-approved styles and they can tell you what your options are.
Do I need a permit to install a fence?
As with many things in the world of fencing, this can vary based on your municipality or HOA. If you live in a municipality that requires a permit, you can purchase our permit service which takes the burden of dealing with the permit process completely off of you. We regularly work with local municipalities to obtain permits for our customers. We’re happy to help you, too!
How long will my fence last?
The answer to this question can vary greatly based on material, style, weather conditions, and many other factors. Here at the Fence Authority, we have replaced fences that we installed for homeowners decades ago! We have been operating since 1996 and some homeowners are just now coming back to us to have their fence replaced. With proper maintenance, our fences can last years and years.
We also offer a 10 Year Workmanship Warranty on all of the fences we install. When you get a fence installed by our professional installation team, you know you won’t have to worry about gate adjustments or your fence leaning for at least a decade!
